TYPES OF COLLAGEN
Collagen (after water) is the 2nd most abundant substance in the human body.
Over time, the ideal levels of collagen that our bodies naturally produce begin to decrease. At the age of 40, the body’s ability to produce collagen decreases by 25%. At age 60, the reduction is over 50%. This is especially true for collagen Type I and Type III.
There are 3 distinct types of collagen, with completely different functions, Type I, Type II and Type III. All 3 types of collagen contain different collagen peptides that have a distinct function in the body.
Over 90% of collagen in the body consists of Type I and Type III collagen, and 36% of bones consist of Type I and Type III collagen.
WHAT KIND OF COLLAGEN IS THERE?
There are 4 kinds of collagen:
- Bovine (beef) collagen – contains type I and type III and is an ideal source of the amino acids glycine and proline, which are essential for creating creatine and building muscle mass.
- Fish collagen – contains mainly type I collagen, it’s the most easily and efficiently absorbed and a source of amino acids glycine, proline and hydroxyproline.
- Chicken collagen – contains type II collagen, which is the best for joint cartilage, especially because it contains chondroitin and glucosamine.
- Collagen from eggshells – contains mainly type I collagen, but also glucosamine, chondroitin and hyaluronic acid.
BOVINE (BEEF) COLLAGEN
Bovine collagen (type I and type III) is obtained from cow skin and is a rich source of amino acids. The recommended daily dose is 10 grams. The composition is dominated by the following 4 amino acids:
- glycine – responsible for strong muscles, skin, bones, blood
- hydroxyproline – contributes to the stability of collagen
- proline – helps to strengthen the heart muscle
aspartic acid – has a role as a neurotransmitter
FISH COLLAGEN
Fish collagen was first produced 35 years ago, in 1985.
Fish collagen (mainly Type I, small part Type II) is obtained from the skin and scales of fish. Bioactive peptide molecules are smaller and therefore more easily absorbed and have greater bioavailability. Therefore, the recommended daily dose is only 5 grams. The composition of this collagen is dominated by the following 3 amino acids:
- alanine – strengthens immunity and provides energy for the central nervous system, brain and muscles
- arginine – promotes faster wound healing
- aspartic acid – has a role as a neurotransmitter
Fish collagen is the perfect anti-aging protein with the highest bioavailability:
- It is absorbed 1.5 times more efficiently by the body
- It is the best source of medical collagen
- It contains type 1 collagen, which is the most abundant in the body
HEALTH BENEFITS OF CONSUMING COLLAGEN
- Anti-age – increased hydration and elasticity of the skin, reduction of wrinkles
- Fracture healing and increase in bone mineral density, as well as anti-inflammatory effect in osteoarthritis
- Wound healing
- An ideal source of protein
- Antibacterial properties – contains collagencin that acts against the staphylococcus bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus)
